Billboard Awards Nominees Announced

Rapper 50 Cent led all nominees with eight and Mariah Carey was close behind with seven nods Tuesday for the 2005 Billboard Music Awards.

Green Day received nominations in six categories for the awards that will be broadcast live over Fox TV from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Dec. 6th.

Rap icon LL Cool J is host with live performances from Gwen Stefani, Daddy Yankee, Pharrell, Green Day, Toby Keith, R. Kelly and Carrie Underwood.

Carey, 50 Cent and Green Day will face off in two categories — artist of the year and album of the year, Billboard.com reported. The other album of the year finalist is Eminem’s “Encore” and Kelly Clarkson is the fourth artist of the year finalist.

Others nominated in more than one category include Fantasia, The Game, Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz, Stefani, Eminem, the Killers, Destiny’s Child, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, Mario, Ciara, the Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails.

Tom Petty will receive the Century Award and Kanye West will be bestowed with the 2005 Artist Achievement Award at the ceremony.
